Frances WOOD

Frances Wood is Regional Director for the UK Government Science and Innovation Network covering Europe, Russia and Turkey. She is based in the British Embassy in Berlin. Frances was previously Head of the Economics Unit in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The Economics Unit acts as an internal think-tank providing economic advice and analysis to inform UK foreign policy.  Prior to this, Frances was Economic Counsellor in South Korea, where she covered economics, climate and energy and science. Her work included solving market access issues for British companies and promoting research and student links in areas such as marine energy and neuroscience. Previous jobs in the FCO include leading for the UK on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, climate and resource security and green growth. Prior to joining the FCO, Frances worked at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. She is also the chair of FCO Women, which promotes gender equality within the FCO.

Frances has a Masters in International Security from the University of Bristol and is married with one daughter.
